Brilliant - thank you for responding Phillip! You are amazing! I ended up solving it after a bit of a headache. Regardless, your reply is awesome and it means a lot to me that you took the time.
In the end, the install failed, and it lead to my computer becoming non- bootable. Not super fun, obviously. I ended up backing up necessary files, then deleting all partitions and doing a fresh install. I suspect not many people will encounter this problem but it might still be an opportunity for minor improvement? The warning message that was given to me was not totally clear (to me, at least) - I believe it said something about UEFI mode and asked me if I wished to continue. Not realizing that it might prevent me from booting up my system, I said yes. Perhaps a stronger warning or a more clear explanation for users who don't have any expertise with GPI/EFI might be helpful? I will leave this in your hands since you are the experts and know better than me, but just a possible idea. Thank you again and thank you to everyone who is contributing!
