Good find cxreg! Indeed does look the same, happens when I am running chromium, cxreg found bug happens in Chrome. So some path with the i915 there does appear to be flaky.
Workaround seems to not be super effective given post https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99295#c27 unfortunately.
