After a little more digging, it just looks like the contents of the comedi...tar.gz file were dumped straight into /usr/src/modules, rather than /usr/src/modules/comedi. This is because the source tarball is supposed to have its own /comedi directory to contain the entire source tree, which it does not. (so this is actually a duplicate bug report)
