Well, I did change the boot sequence and had it set to boot from CD. After restarting the PC accessed the CD drive a little bit but then booted from the HD anyway. So there must be another reason.

A lot of computers are already configured in that way, but it's not the case for all computers. you can normally access your BIOS by pressing a key on your keyboard before you see the logo of your operating system.
