Public bug reported:

When browsing videos in Nautilus video thumbnails display the first
frame of the video. The first frame of most videos is often times a
black frame, and in turn makes it hard to visually tell what video it
is. In Feisty Fawn the thumbnail was generated from a frame in the
middle of the video. For some reason Gusty Gibbon has changed it to the
first frame as default. I'm not sure what program does the thumbnailing
but this bug may be related, #29962, though it is an old bug.
