This problem is resolved ( i think ). all i have to do is get onto my
other internet to download my "Kubuntu" alternate cd instead of the
"Ubuntu" alternate cd so that i can update my "Kubuntu"

very stupid mistake but it could be somthing ( relatively easy possibly
) to include as a warning somewhere in the update manager or in the
script on the alternate install cd. "if you are using Kubuntu please use
other cd" somthing simple like that
