Hi there Did you try to use a different USB cable/port?, if you already did this, please follow the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingUSBStorage, and see if solve the problem. It would be of great help if you try to reproduce this issue under Gutsy Gibbon livecd.
