I did the last big reorg of the plugin - https://github.com/sosreport/sos/commit/292599ac323f66c5086d8fc187815aac1e6a1204 (as an aside that also collects ls -alRh /var/log/ so you have a good idea which log files you'd need to collect next) Basically I didn't see a good reason to start capturing the compressed logs (after .2 and higher are usually compressed), which doesn't do well with how we truncate the logs after that to the filesize limit. It also could really increase the size of collected sosreports.
