No, it will not work in fish - that issue was closed as "will-not-
implement".

The fix is that `ssh-copy-id` should run `sh -c "mkdir -p .ssh && cat >>
.ssh/authorized_keys || exit 1"` on the remote machine. I see multiple
patches submitted upstream, but I'm not aware that any of them ever got
merged.
