Hi Martin,
I think I should explain how I came across this issue.
A friend asked me to install Linux on his laptop so I loaded several
distros onto partitions on my own pc to demonstrate and let him choose
which he liked. Ubuntu Mate was one.
Since then I have removed Mate so cannot be 100% certain which version I
was using when the issue arose. I did keep the .iso files though and one is
ubuntu-mate-17.04-desktop-amd64 so I think it's safe to assume that was the
version I was using.
The issue seems to be that a panel becomes too wide (or tall) for the
screen after the hide/unhide buttons are turned on. Re-starting the panel,
by whatever means, corrects the problem. Perhaps it's simply a case of the
panel's not being re-drawn properly?
Matt
