Thanks for reporting.

I can confirm this issue. I got the same error message when attempting
to build gitg via `debuild -us -uc` on Ubuntu 16.04. Like one of the
replies in the original question mentions, the root cause seems to be
that libgit2-glib was updated to a newer version, which is incompatible
with the build requirements for this package.

All packages should be buildable, but I'm not sure if there's an easy
fix for this short of backporting a newer version of gitg or path
(presumably) large part of it to support a newer version of the
underlying library :/
