I installed the latest elementary OS Loki 0.4.1 (based on Ubuntu) onto an Acer C730 (GNAWTY) chromebook with FULL firmware from MrChromebox. It is also impacted by this issue since the kernel is linux-image-4.8.0 -5x-generic.
Falling back to the previous 4.4 kernel does fix the issue.
