Thanks. System has been working normally since reporting this bug, without further prompts to report a system problem.
According to man apt-get, sudo apt-get install -f is the same as the sudo apt --fix-broken install that I have already ran. I ran the sudo apt-get clean and sudo apt-get update commands that you described, followed by sudo apt-get upgrade. One new package version was detected and installed, so my system seems to be OK now.
