I am experiencing a similiar problem, also after upgrading Feisty to Gutsy with Adept. When I start Kopete, the icon appears in the tray, but I cannot open the program. The CPU load goes to 100 % and I have to kill the process. When launching Kopete from the terminal, I don't get any error messages and hence I have no debug info to post.
