Xubuntu 10.04 is no longer supported. Can you reproduce the bug in newer 
supported Xubuntu? Which? You could install newer screensaver from PPA 
https://launchpad.net/~hda-me/+archive/ubuntu/xscreensaver

Xfce calls xflock4 before suspending, if set to lock in preferences. You
may want to disable the setting and call 'sh -c 'xflock4 && xfce4
-session-logout -s' instead. Does it make difference?
