Thanks How long does it take for an upstream fix?
I'm a long time C/C++ programmer (40+ years). I built kernels since the 0.99 days... So far, though, all I'm getting is black screens after loading the ram disk. Seems like the graphics drivers aren't loading. Normally the screen shows the Kubuntu graphic loading/splash screen at that point. I tried 4.13, 4.12, and 4.10 kernel builds.
