Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debootstrap

While installing Ubuntu 7.10 it returned a "core dumped" error when the
installation was at 62%. I tried to install five times but the error persisted.
When i tried a "netboot install" it return a error whith the "debootstrap
package".
I probed two differents hard disks and i did a memtest but it not returned any
error.
The solution was install Ubuntu 6.10 and update it beacause Ubuntu 7.04
returned the same error.
My laptop is a Travelmate Aspire 1650:
 Intel Pentium M processor 740 (1,73 GHz., 533 Mhz FRSB, 2MB L2 cache)
 1GB DDR2 (Dual channel)
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 PCI Express (128MB RAM)

** Affects: debootstrap (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
