I had the exact same problem with my Brother HL-1430 when I upgraded
from Fesity to Gutsy, on my desktop.

So I tried to connect the printer to my laptop, also running Gutsy,
(which it had never been connected to before) and it worked! Then I
remembered that I choose to keep my cupsd.conf file when upgrading, as I
had spent some time setting the printer up as a network printer and
didnt want to go through this process again. This was before I realised
that there is a GUI for printer sharing in Gutsy.

So i made a backup of my current cupsd.conf and replaced it with the one
from the dist-upgrade

sudo mv /etc/cups/cupsd.conf /etc/cups/cups.my_backup
sudo cp /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.dist_upgrade /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

Restarted cupsys:

sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart

And it worked again, also as a network printer ;-)

The driver for Brother DCP 7010 doesn't work. The printer is detected
automatically and when printing it gives no error message and every print is
listed in the printing jobs but nothing happens. Maybe this could be fixed
'till the official release of Gutsy.
