I've tested with v4.14-rc3 and can confirm that the problem still exists
there.

Just a heads up for anyone trying to do the same: I had to put apparmor
policy for sbin.dhclient in complaint mode for a connection to work on
17.04/4.14rc3, otherwise I was getting the following deny events:
