With Gutsy and stock fglrx 8.37 installed I don't have the initial issue reported of X not loading.
For others, is this just a black/blank screen for the initial startup of X? This I have, but it goes away after 3 seconds or so and gdm loads fine. Or does the X server never fully load as the initial report indicates?
