Odd, but if so it would indicate to be more an issue of the network initialization then dovecot right? I'm puzzled why for me it always worked (I had a single iface auto statement which gave me ipv4&ipv6) and then the hosts entry done manually.
I'm unsure where to follow on on this, so I'm marking it incomplete for now.
