Solid hour so far , zero problems. Usually the problem would have already happened on 17.10. I believe there is a bug, that's not to say some people don't have a hardware issue, it doesn't seem to apply in my case. I'm rolling my install on this notebook back to 16.04 lts and I will report back if it happens again, if nobody hears from me in days or weeks, it means moving back to 16 resolved my problem.
