I use Kubuntu, so can't help on the Gnome front. There may be something with your computer trying to run Compiz Fusion -- which is supposed to be installed by default in Gutsy for machines that can handle it.
That being said, according to nvidia, the GeForce 3 should be supported by the later drivers included in nvidia-glx. There are issues with the nvidia-glx driver in Gutsy that were not present in Feisty. nvidia-glx worked find in Feisty for my GeForce FX 5700 LE. In Gutsy, I get basic KDE functionality, but anything that requires glx is broken. As an example, under Gutsy, when I run glxgears, the window that *should* show a set of moving gears is just blank. Meanwhile, in the console screen where I ran the glxgears command, its showing appalling performance calculations around 1.0 fps or less, until it finally crashes. I don't think that the issue is a matter of your card not being supported as much as it seems to be an issue of nvidia-glx not working correctly. -- NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155231 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
