I'm also experiencing a similar problem: with qemu 0.9.0 my windows-xp image stalls with ~100% cpu-usage after the first "resolution-change", i.e. after the text-based windows boot menu and before usually the windows-logo appears on a black screen with the blue progress-bar. Reverting to 0.8.2 from feisty solved the problem. I do not get any messages on the console.
