I also have this problem after a fresh install of Gutsy (the final release, not the beta). The problem is on my old Toshiba Satellite 115-S103. It seems to be different from the bug #129910 mentioned above, because the screen is only blank during the boot process. Once GDM starts, it displays normally. I just installed Gutsy 10 minutes ago, so I'll report back with more details if/when I find any.
It's not very serious, since you just have to be patient and everything functions perfectly once it's done booting. The boot process, however, took a long time, and I almost gave up on waiting for the blank screen to do something. Just as I was about to reach for the power button, GDM started.
