Everything is fine with disk space. 4GB machine with 250 SSD and I get the 
exact same thing.
What should be mentioned is that I wanted to install over an existing partition 
scheme

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD sata
Once formated with opensuse leap 42.3 installer
509MB sda1 boot format
ext part
40GB sda5 root format
160GB sda6 home keep
8GB swap 

but the installer miscalculates boot to be 533MB. it then gets stuck
with the error the OP mentioned. I retried settign size to a sfea value
at 488, I recreated this partition with gparted beforehand, always stuck
at creating /boot on sda1.

So there is your bug, and it is valid.
