no lockup today. probably because i used far fewer firefox tabs. i suspect xorg gets into trouble under the strain of thrashing. i suspect this is a new issue because the new version of firefox recently introduced into xenial has a significantly larger memory footprint. tomorrow perhaps i'll try with more tabs open.
