Yes, I had also used Ubuntuzilla to install another copy of Thunderbird. Did you read the entire bug report?
"That puzzled me and then I remembered that I had also installed Thunderbird using ubuntuzilla about a week ago. Since both packages seemed to use identical builds I had forgotten about it." I had a working configuration that broke when I updated your package. Why is that not a problem? I'm used to having multiple versions of Thunderbird under XP and win2k. I typically have 1.5.x, 2.x and a nightly build so that I can support users in the mozillaZine forums (I'm tanstaafl). What about if I had downloaded a copy of Thunderbird from Mozilla's web site instead, both versions co-existed fine, and I apparently lost my profile after updating your package? Would that be a non-problem? I uninstalled the package update and had no problem having two copies of Thunderbird (one from the Ubuntu repository, the other via Ubuntuzilla) until today when I rebooted. Thats apparently due to Synaptic defaulting to using the latest version available despite my explicitly uninstalling it, so I just used the force version command to tell it to keep using the old version. "IM closing this bug due to it not being ubuntu packages fault as our packages still use ~/.mozilla-thunderbird as the dir for profile," Are you stating that you don't support the ability of a user to specify where they store their profile? I'd appreciate you spelling out in more detail why you don't support functionality thats normally available, given that you're shipping a application with the Mozilla trademark. I realize that I'm asking a lot of questions but since I support a lot of Thunderbird users in the mozillaZine forums (and a noticeable number are switching to Ubuntu) I want to fully understand your position. As an aside, I had configured Synaptic to only notify me of important security updates and recommended updates. Why is 2.0.0.8~pre070122 +nobinonly-0ubuntu07.10 considered a recommended update? Mozilla hasn't released 2.0.0.8 yet and if I interpret http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/rumblingedge/archives/2007/09/tb_2-0-0-8.html correctly they've added some fixes to it since you released your package. -- Thunderbird package update lost my profile https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
