Per their comment, my output: oem@ubuntu:~$ cat /sys/module/i915/parameters/enable_psr cat: /sys/module/i915/parameters/enable_psr: Permission denied oem@ubuntu:~$ sudo cat /sys/module/i915/parameters/enable_psr [sudo] password for oem: 0 So returns '0' , but 'cat' usually does not needs 'sudo' .
