The logs really have no info about what happened on upgrade. But if that is reproducible you should be able to run e.g. $ sudo apt install --reinstall samba
That should trigger the error again and after that the logs should hold some info why they failed to start. TL;DR: 1. $ sudo apt install --reinstall samba 2. If above fails report the content of the two logs after that 3. sharing the full output of $ systemctl status smbd $ systemctl status nmbd -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755383 Title: package samba 2:4.6.7+dfsg-1ubuntu3.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1755383/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
