I just had the same problem, song will crash rhythmbox at the end, it even would crash the test in the sound pref area for music.
i reinstalled everything having to do with alsa and also did this from a web page i found about sound not working sudo m-a prepar sudo m-a a-i alsa i guess this recompiles it back into the kernel? but it still was not working if i play a radio station it works but hitting play for a song crashes it then i heard that the song FADES out at the end THEN crashes !
