After installing updates (sudo update and upgrade) on or about 3/18/18
applications installed using snap fail to start.  Specifically chromium,
gimp, and vlc.  No really good indications what is going wrong for
chromium but starting gimp from the command line results in

ln: failed to create symbolic link 
'/home/cliff/snap/gimp/30/.config/gtk-2.0/gtkfilechooser.ini': File exists
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "gail"
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "atk-bridge"
Cannot open display: 

Have two system at 18.04 and both cannot open an application that was
install with snap.
