Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gtk-qt-engine
After realizing I couldn't open any GTK apps, I ran the command "firefox" in Konsole and this was its output: ~$ firefox QPainter::begin: Cannot paint null pixmap QPainter::setPen: Will be reset by begin() QPainter::setFont: Will be reset by begin() QPainter::end: Missing begin() or begin() failed The program 'firefox-bin' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. (Details: serial 449 error_code 2 request_code 53 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) I opened Konqueror (opened fine) and searched kubuntuforum.org for an any posts regarding this error, and found the below: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3082114.msg64797#msg64797 Following the instruction posted, I uninstalled the gtk-qt-engine package, ran the "firefox" command in Konsole again, and, VOILA, Firefox opened. This apparently isn't a new bug, just it hasn't been reported before. My GTK apps look like mess without the gtk-qt-engine installed, but I'm just happy they run. ** Affects: gtk-qt-engine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gtk-qt-engine prevents GTK apps from opening https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157962 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
