My fault didn't explain properly. My computer is UEFI but want to perform a MBR install to boot on legacy systems. I follow this video:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=F0b4I89LY5E chroot at 12:20 grub-install at 15:30, which is where I get the error with modinfo.sh. It's fixed by installing grub-pc-bin inside the chrooted environment.
