The same happens with VLC snap on Ubuntu 18.04 beta. LC_ALL=C XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE snap run vlc -vvv results in the same UI issues when opening a file dialog, and the attached apparmor denials in messages.txt, with attached snap.vlc.vlc.
