Public bug reported:

I wanted tu run the europa version of eclipse and did need a newer jvm. After
installing the sun-java6 package it still didn't work even after a reboot my
investigation showed, that some links in /etc/alternatives still were linked to
the old jvm:
rwxrwxrwx 1 root root  33 2007-10-27 20:06 /etc/alternatives/jar ->
/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/jre/bin/jar
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  39 2007-10-27 20:06 /etc/alternatives/jar.1.gz ->
/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/man/man1/jar.1.gz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  34 2007-10-27 20:06 /etc/alternatives/java ->
/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/jre/bin/java
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  40 2007-10-27 20:06 /etc/alternatives/java.1.gz ->
/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/man/man1/java.1.gz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  37 2007-10-27 20:06 /etc/alternatives/keytool ->
/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/jre/bin/keytool
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  41 2007-10-27 20:06 /etc/alternatives/rmiregistry ->
/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/jre/bin/rmiregistry
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  47 2007-10-27 20:06 /etc/alternatives/rmiregistry.1.gz
-> /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/man/man1/rmiregistry.1.gz
After changing these links manually to the java6 location it worked.
One note: the jar program in java6 isn't located in jre/bin but in the bin
directory one level higher /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/bin.

I'm running ubuntu 7.04 (feisty) on a MacPro in a virtual environment
(Paralles).

Regards
Werner
