Ok. In Failsafe Gnome, it still took some time, but it basically seemed
to come right up.

Altering the session script made no change.

Changing the session from xclient to gnome made no change.

Disabling compiz made no change. Although, i still think compiz is part
of the problem.

Keyring manager, doesn't ask me for a password, whcih is nice, but it's
odd behavior for keyring manager.

There is no gnome-splash screen, even after install, gnome-splash-
manager.

I cannot log out, and log back in, or restart x. On re-log in, it will
just sit on the desktop, with nothing. Only thing to do is to restart
gracefully, since i can access vty's.

FTR - i have gdesklets enabled, but i've tried all the permutation with and 
without it, and it is not a factor.
