Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When I try to shutdown the system using the button provided by gdm, the system
freeze and I can see only a blank screen (the monitor remains switched on).
The only way to stop the system is to press the power button for long time.
I don't have any problem using the shutdown function of Gnome.
Probably this is a bug of gdm and it could lead to a data loss.
Feel free to ask if you need more details.

Operating System: Ubuntu GNU/Linux 7.10 Gusty Gibbon i386
Laptop: Acer Aspire AS5920G-302G16Mi

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
