Hello, I did replicate same issue with 2.7.1 in Ubuntu 18.04.
Temporary solution for the issue (using an older version of jython): I have tried installing Jython 2.7.0 with installer and it works like charm. Issue may be compatibility issue with Jython 2.7.1 and ubuntu 18.04.
