I'm experiencing the same behavior with Sun Java plugin 1.5.0_03-b07 on Firefox 2.0.0.8. It used to work just fine, but after my Feisty -> Gutsy upgrade the Java console window is just empty. I can't confirm this yet but I think its not just the Java console that's empty, but other dialogs created by Java applets as well.
