So tested this manually on xenial (pylxd/lxd) and it's all working perfectly.
Also checked with lxd charm/nova-compute (mitaka) to verify that the nova-compute/nova-lxd/pylxd combo works; did this by running up an openstack bundle (openstack-bundles/development/openstack-lxd-xenial- mitaka) and used distro-proposed for nova-compute.
