"out of range" doesn't mean it's the wrong resolution. It means that
you've specified some frequencies/values that the monitor can't support,
or isn't meant to support in case they cause damage.

It's unclear to me if this is a bug in Xorg, a faulty monitor, or just a
misunderstanding.
