I have the same problem. i have installed the packages Michael suggests and it does not work for me. I don't know when it exactly stops working. I made my dist-upgrade form gutsy and amarok played my mp3 but 1 week ago it doesn't. I don't remember exactly the upgraded packages that broke this. I think it is an important bug.
