@ziga and @niemeyer, thanks for explaining again that you will address it. I just want to address two things quickly.
@niemeyer: "this is an important personal preference issue to some of you," Calling this a "personal preference" degrades it to something that people want, where in this case this could arguably be called, more universally, a bad decision (and I say "more" understanding that it may not be 100% absolute). That directory contains a lot of information that is irrelevant for most users. For them, that's noise. While people tolerate noise at different levels, nobody appreciates having files they'll never use mixed with their own important files. It's part of the reason why dot files are hidden by default and most people are happy about this. I'd like to see how many people who do not work in the development of snap or snap apps prefer to have that directory there, visible, all the time. @niemeyer: "but please realize that creating directories in $HOME for user content isn't novel" I believe this is a very incorrect line of argumentation. Your position is "others have done it too". This is not an excuse. Also they have done it differently. Creating directories in $HOME that are not hidden is a big no-no everywhere. The rare exceptions are (GNOME's) user dirs (e.g., Videos, Documents), which people have requested to move to less intrusive locations, and can be configured accordingly. Other exceptions include Eclipse Workspaces, Virtualbox VMs, etc. All configurable, all for *user-created* content. None of them are meant to store configuration files. Other than that, the trend has been towards having a cleaner home with less stuff and more organized. These days, even creating a $HOME/.snap dir could be frowned upon. Instead, $HOME/.config/snap might be seen as more appropriate. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575053 Title: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1575053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
