Reassigning to gcc. gcc does not appear to be managed by update- alternatives. AFAIUI, update-alternatives updates symlinks in /etc/alternatives. So /usr/bin/gcc would have to point to /etc/alternatives/gcc which then points to gcc-8.
But /usr/bin/gcc is provided by the gcc package as a fixed symlink to a specific versioned one, not an alternative. So this seems like an upgrade bug or something: You have a gcc alternative where you should not have one. ** Package changed: apt (Ubuntu) => gcc-defaults (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1794949 Title: update-alternatives inconsistent after package upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-defaults/+bug/1794949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
