Hi Walter I ran into this problem on two different machines, one with an SSD HDD and one with a regular HDD. Both machines had Lubuntu 18.04.01 installed.
I also had the same problem today, where I installed lubuntu-18.10-beta- desktop-amd64. I did a manual partitioning and the installation completed. I then ran a new install and this the option to select "Erase disk" was suddenly available. So it looks like the bug is related to the current install?
