OK, so it looks like Edge, IE, Chrome and Firefox on Windows all currently do a version of autocompleting to www.$query.com on Ctrl-Enter. So I agree that doing this per-OS makes sense, since macOS seems to lean more heavily towards interpreting Cmd-something as doing things in a new tab.
