I discovered that the issue seems to not actually be the lock screen. Last night the screen timed out but did not lock as the lock is set to happen at 30 minutes but the blank screen at 10 min. The screen blanked and the issue occurred. I came back to the laptop some time later and found that the login prompt was there, and it let me enter my password and login.
