it seems as though my cycle count is quite high as well (HP Pavilion ze2308wm) however I have found a setting in the BIOS that may have solved it. I don't remember the commands to test though. Check you BIOS settings for a Battery power saver function of some sort. I turned mine off and have not noticed the clicking sound coming from my hard drive since doing so. I will need to get the commands to test and will need to figure it out. however it might be the cause...
