I was an intel machine, and disconnecting the external video connection caused a lot of devices to disappear and then reappear, including the usb ports, the touchscreen, the webcam, and indeed the video card.
When the video card gets pulled out lots of things get upset and you end up at a black screen. Switching to vt1 and back to 2 gets back to the running session. This smells more of a hardware issue than a bug. andyrock did some debugging but we couldnt get to the bottom of it. The user is also now reporting that the headphone socket has stopped working. This makes me think it's even more likely to be a hardware issue. I'll follow up again in the new year, but I don't think there is anything else we can do here. Marking as invalid. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1806404 Title: After the screen turns off the machine has to be rebooted to get back to a working session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1806404/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
